The Food Pantry at Community Action Planning Council received a grant of $1,629 from the Northern New York Community Foundation. Grant funds were received at a crucial time, with increased visitor traffic to the food pantry as people struggle to recover from the long, harsh winter.
Visitors to the Food Pantry are provided with a five-day supply of food (three meals per day) for each member of the household. Food packages contain a variety of food items in keeping with nutrition guidelines from the Food Bank of Central New York.
During
the first five months of 2014 (January through May), our pantry provided emergency food assistance to 3,939 individuals, equating to more than 59,000 meals. Thanks to the generosity of the Northern New York Community Foundation, the pantry was able to keep up with the peak demand in April and May with 15,465 and 12,915 meals provided respectively.

Many thanks to the Northern New York Community Foundation – and all those who support the foundation – for helping to keep the Food Pantry shelves stocked!
