Weatherization Assistance Program

    • The Weatherization Assistance Program is administered by the New York State Division of Housing & Community Renewal, with Community Action Planning Council serving as the local provider for Jefferson County.  Weatherization services are available to households meeting financial eligibility.  Trained weatherization experts use the most advanced technologies and testing protocols available in the housing industry.  Services may include:

  • Replacing incandescent and compact fluorescent bulbs with highly efficient LED bulbs
  • Insulating attics, basements, and exterior walls
  • Replacing or repairing heating systems
  • Replace bath fans and range hoods
  • Testing and replacing water heaters

The Weatherization Assistance Program has four steps:

  1. An application to the local service provider to determine income eligibility
  2. An energy audit of the home to identify specific needs
  3. Weatherization of the home
  4. A post-weatherization inspection to assure quality and effectiveness
