Community Action to Host Fair Housing Roundtable

Community Action Planning Council and the Jefferson County Planning Department are hosting an Annual
Fair Housing Roundtable in recognition of Fair Housing Month on April 22, 2014, 9:00 – 11:00 AM at
Community Action Planning Council, located at 518 Davidson Street, Watertown.

The topic for this year’s roundtable discussion is “Reasonable Accommodations” with Karen Schroeder from
the CNY Fair Housing Council and Deanna Nelson from the NYS Attorney General’s Office. Ms. Schroeder will
explain reasonable accommodations and who the law applies to under the Fair Housing Act. Ms. Nelson will
provide information pertaining to the legal consequences for landlords who fail to comply with requests for
reasonable accommodations.

In addition, panelists from three Jefferson County agencies will share their expertise regarding available
resources to help landlords offset the costs associated with providing reasonable accommodations.
Panelists are Kim Smith and Mark Curtis from Northern Regional Center for Independent Living, Barb
Trombley from NNY Cerebral Palsy Association, and Sandy Garcia from Disabled Persons Action
Organization.
