Warrant Officers Spread Holiday Joy

Community Action staff were invited to a Holiday Social at the Commons on Fort Drum where we met several kind-hearted, community-minded members of the Thousand Island Warrant Officer Association.  Each year, the local Warrant Officers sell funnel cakes during Fort Drum’s popular Mountain Fest event.  The proceeds are shared with non-profit agencies.  Generous donations were distributed to Community Action, Association for the Blind and the Children’s Home of Jefferson County.

Ernie Ixtlahuac and Christine ShimanekRetired Warrant Officer and President of the Thousand Island Warrant Officer Association Ernie Ixtlahuac presented the check to Christine Shimanek of Community Action.  Coincidentally, Christine’s husband is a Warrant Officer, current serving in Afghanistan.

To the many fine members of the Thousands Island Warrant Officer Association, we send hearty thanks for their continued generosity and best wishes for a safe and happy holiday season.  We also wish to recognize and thank all the brave service men and women – including the members of the Warrant Officers Association and CW2 Shimanek – and their families for their service and sacrifice to this great nation of ours!
