Community Action Planning Council hosted the fifth annual Golfing for Community Action fundraiser on August 9 at Watertown Golf Club. Despite the threat of rain, 14 teams spent the day on the links, helping to raise more than $8,800 in support of early childhood literacy. The proceeds will be used for books and field trips for Head Start, a comprehensive preschool for children of low-income families.
Watertown Savings Bank’s foursome placed first with a score of 58 (pictured from left): Michael Burgess, Chuck Capone, Jason Desjardins and Brian Navarra. A putting contest ended in an exciting putt off with Josh Woodward taking the prize. Gary Greene earned bragging rights for hitting closest to the pin. Brian Spink and Susan Calandra won the men’s and women’s longest drive competitions.
A total of 20 local businesses sponsored the event and dozens more provided prizes, making this the most successful Golfing for Community Action to date. Major sponsors included Benefit Services Group, White’s Lumber, Crowley & Halloran CPAs, Key Bank and United Healthcare. Community Action Planning Council thanks the many volunteers, golfers and sponsors who supported Golfing for Community Action. Sincere thanks for bringing books, field trips, and smiles to the children of Head Start. We hope to see you again next year!
