Just a Buck Can Make a Difference

The Jo Oddi Memorial Just a Buck fundraiser is underway. Through a direct mail campaign, members of the community are encouraged to make donations in support of the Food Pantry at the Community Action Planning Council.  For the second year, Watertown Savings Bank is matching the first $2,500 received through the Just a Buck campaign.

Last year the Food Pantry distributed emergency food that provided north country households with more than 112,000 meals. The pantry receives financial support from a variety of sources, including the Food Bank of Central NY, the Emergency Food and Shelter Program (EFSP), and the Community Services Block Grant (CSBG). However, donations and food drives coordinated by area businesses and individuals continue to be a major source of support.  The partnership with Watertown Savings Bank is an excellent example of corporate and non-profit organizations working together to serve the community.

Now in its tenth year, the Just a Buck campaign was initiated by longtime member of the CAPC board of directors, Josephine “Jo” Oddi. After Jo’s death in 2008, the CAPC board of directors opted to continue the Just a Buck tradition.  Last year, the Just a Buck campaign raised $9,543.
