Weatherization Assistance Program

New York State Division of Housing & Community Renewal, with the Community Action Planning Council serving as the local provider for Jefferson County.  Weatherization services are available to households meeting financial eligibility.  Trained weatherization experts use the most advanced technologies and testing protocols available in the housing industry.  Services include:

  • Replacing incandescent bulbs with compact flourescent bulbs
  • Insulating attics, basements, and exterior walls
  • Replacing or repairing heating systems
  • Testing and replacing or repairing refrigerators

The Weatherization Assistance Program has four steps:

  1. An application to the local service provider to determine income eligibility
  2. An energy audit of the home to identify specific needs
  3. Weatherization of the home
  4. A post-weatherization inspection to assure quality and effectiveness
