Help Children Look and Feel Their Best

At Community Action, we believe that all children should have the resources to look and feel their best.  Children that look and feel their best have more confidence and are better prepared to learn and excel in school.  That’s why Community Action is conducting a school supply drive with a twist to support the Back to School in Style initiative.  We are asking the community for donations of personal hygiene items – not often thought of as school supplies but necessities to academic success.  Community Action is seeking items such as shampoo, hairbrushes/combs, certificates for haircuts, toothpaste, toothbrushes, deodorant and feminine hygiene products, as well as traditional school supplies.  For more information about Back to School in Style, contact us or phone 315.782.4900, ext. 250.

All the supplies collected will be made available to children of low-income families during a series of Back to School in Style events:

  • August 18, 5 – 7 PM: Church of God Soldiers of Jesus Christ, 27 North Jefferson St. Carthage
  • August 19, 5 – 7 PM: Philadelphia Fire Hall, 3 Antwerp St. Philadelphia
  • August 25, 5 – 7 PM: Community Action Planning Council, 518 Davidson St. Watertown

Healthy HairBack to School in Style events encourage healthy habits, such as proper nutrition, exercise, dental care, hair care and respecting others.   Information about available resources will be distributed by partner agencies, such as United Healthcare, North Country Family Health Center, Jefferson County Public Health, Cornell Cooperative Extension of Jefferson County, and several others.  Aeropostalé will distribute gently-used jeans collected through the Teens for Jeans campaign.

The Back to School in Style initiative is largely supported through the proceeds from the Golfing for Community Action fundraiser.  This year’s golf outing will be held on August 14 at Watertown Golf Club, located at historic Thompson Park.  The tournament will be played in 4-person captain and crew format.  Registration begins at noon, followed by a shotgun start at 1 PM.  The cost is $75 per person ($300 per team) which includes greens fees, cart rental, and a buffet dinner, including roast beef, baked chicken and pasta.  Click here for team registration.

Our sincere thanks to the many businesses who support Golfing for Community Action.  There’s still time to add your business to the growing list of sponsors.  Click here for sponsorship information.  Together, we can ensure that all children have the resources they need to be successful.  For more information about Golfing for Community Action, contact us or phone 315.782.4900, ext. 250.
