The Community Action Planning Council, Fort Drum Mountain Community Homes and Hunger Solutions New York celebrated the kick-off to the Summer Food Service Program on June 27, 2012. Nearly 300 children were provided with lunch at the event, which was held at the Adirondack Creek Community Center on Fort Drum. 
Sponsored by the U.S. Department of Agriculture, the Summer Food Service Program provides free meals to children during the summer when school meal program are not available. Children under the age of 18 and disabled persons under the age of 21 are encouraged to use the program. Breakfasts, lunches and/or snacks are available at a variety of locations throughout Jefferson County, including three sites on Fort Drum.
The Community Action Planning Council has operated the Summer Food Service Program for 22 years. Last more than 20,000 meals were provided at CAPC-hosted sites.
