Hours: 30 hrs a week; 11am-5:30pm
Classification: Part-Time/Academic/Non-Exempt
Grade: 1 or 2

Summary:

The Teacher Aide in the Watertown Head Start Center cooperates with the Master Teacher or Teacher Assistant in helping with the Head Start classroom. The Teacher Aide I helps to ensure the safety of the children and assists with carrying out the Head Start Performance Standards. The aide will also be responsible for being a bus monitor for two runs/day and completing training as applicable.

Qualifications:
EDUCATION
• High School Diploma and CDA preferred.
• Basic education level to understand and perform program duties as required. (Must be willing to obtain a CDA or an Associate Degree in Early Childhood by September 30, 2013)

EXPERIENCE
• Prior experience working in an Early Childhood setting preferred.

REQUIRED SKILLS
• Demonstrated ability to be supportive and non-judgmental in working with low-income families
• Ability to maintain confidentiality of program information
• Ability to observe and learn to record behaviors of children
• Ability to work as a team and to cooperate with all staff to provide quality programming for children and families
• Ability to communicate clearly in writing and speaking
• Ability to keep accurate, detailed records
• Ability to serve as advocate for children and their families
• Ability to help and willingness to carry out appropriate education program
for a group of children and their families within the context of the Head
Start philosophy and performance standards.
• Ability to work with young children

All employment is conditional pending the receipt of clearance from the New York Register for Child Abuse and receipt of fingerprint clearance from OCFS at the time of hire; and employments will be required to sign an affidavit annually which states that they have not been indicated with a child abuse or neglect case within the past year.

Preference is given to qualified in-house candidates

Any employee who is required to drive Agency vehicles or their own personal vehicles to conduct Agency business must possess at time of hire, and maintain throughout employment a valid New York State driver's license free from major infractions. DMV abstract will be required at a cost of $10.00 for new hires.

CAPC Academic and Food Service staff are required to provide proof of physician verification that they are physically fit to work within a day care center.

Must have medical insurance or will be required to utilize Agency Fringe Benefit for health insurance coverage.
