Golfing for Community Action: Make a Difference in a Child’s Life

Posted by DCole in CAPC News - (Comments Off on Golfing for Community Action: Make a Difference in a Child’s Life)

Golf PhotoOn August 8, a merry band of golfers will join with a dedicated group of volunteers at Watertown Golf Club for a great day of golf and camaraderie – all for the benefit of children of low-income families!

The proceeds from this year’s Golfing for Community Action event support personal care items and school supplies for children of low-income families.  Unfortunately many parents struggle to afford necessities, such as shampoo, toothpaste, hair brushes, and school supplies.  Children are ill prepared for school which can adversely affect their self-esteem and confidence.  Together, we can prepare children for academic – and personal – success.  Won’t you please help?

Recruit a team for this captain and crew golf outing, and join us at 1:00 PM for a shotgun start, followed by dinner.  Make a difference in a child’s life.  Click here for details.

August 8, 1:00 PM at Watertown Golf Club

We’ll see you there!

NNY Community Foundation Supports Food Pantry

Posted by DCole in CAPC News - (Comments Off on NNY Community Foundation Supports Food Pantry)

The Food Pantry at Community Action Planning Council received a grant of $1,629 from the Northern New York Community Foundation.  Grant funds were received at a crucial time, with increased visitor traffic to the food pantry as people struggle to recover from the long, harsh winter.Food Pantry Shelves

Visitors to the Food Pantry are provided with a five-day supply of food (three meals per day) for each member of the household.  Food packages contain a variety of food items in keeping with nutrition guidelines from the Food Bank of Central New York.

During
the first five months of 2014 (January through May), our pantry provided emergency food assistance to 3,939 individuals, equating to more than 59,000 meals.   Thanks to the generosity of the Northern New York Community Foundation, the pantry was able to keep up with the peak demand in April and May with 15,465 and 12,915 meals provided respectively.

For more information about the Food Pantry or other Community Action services, please contact 315.782.4900, extension 271.

Many thanks to the Northern New York Community Foundation – and all those who support the foundation –  for helping to keep the Food Pantry shelves stocked!

Time to Feed the Gator

Posted by DCole in CAPC News - (Comments Off on Time to Feed the Gator)

June is national Dairy Month, a good reminder that nutrition is essential to children and adults alike.  Unfortunately many families – right here in our own community – do not get enough to eat.

Our friends at Cazenovia Equipment Company aim to celebrate Dairy Month and to help fight hunger with a special food drive.  Throughout the month of June, you are welcome to stop by Cazenovia Equipment and place non-perishable food items into the bed of a Gator utility vehicle.  The proceeds from the Watertown store, located at 25523 NYS Route 12S, will support the Food Pantry at Community Action Planning Council.  Your support is well needed and well appreciated by the many families who rely on our Food Pantry when their household budgets will stretch no further.

Feed the Gator

What are you waiting for?  Time to feed the gator!  Thanks to Cazenovia Equipment Company and the community for making a difference!
