The Gift of Reading: Addie’s Books for Children

Assemblywoman Addie J. Russell delivered children’s books to Community Action Planning Council.  The books were collected through Addie’s Books for Children, an initiative that began five years ago when Assemblywoman Russell set out to promote literacy and to ensure that every child is provided with the opportunity to enjoy the gift of reading.

Books were collected at special drop boxes located at Kinney Drug stores throughout Jefferson and St. Lawrence Counties and in Assemblywoman Russell’s Canton and Watertown offices.   Books collected in St. Lawrence County were made available to St. Lawrence County Community Development Program and those collected in Jefferson County were made available to Community Action Planning Council, Salvation Army and Watertown Urban Mission.

Heartfelt thanks to Kinney Drugs and Assemblywoman Russell for their continued efforts in encouraging local support of literacy … and thanks to the community for giving the gift of reading this holiday season.  In Jefferson County, 2,210 books were collected through Addie’s Books for Children.
